Wróciłem właśnie z baru the Brew Pub założonego przez Montgomery Brewing Co. Dwie przecznice od hotelu. Taki mały lokalny browar gdzie pędzą cztery rodzaje piwa: Old Montgomery Blonde, Goat Hill Pale Ale, Riverboat Red i Wipe Out Stout. To ostatnie nieźle się nazywa: Wymiatacz :-))).
Miasto zostało założone w 1819 roku, a samo centrum trochę przypomina centrum jakiegoś śląskiego miasteczka: stare ceglane budynki, raczej niewysokie (jest tutaj cały jeden dwudziestopiętrowy budynek), gdzieniegdzie wystrzeli wieżyczka kościoła (lub też czegoś co wygląda jak kościół), trochę zapuszczone, kilka zabitych dechami sklepów, jakieś grafitti na frontowej fasadzie czegoś co wygląda na lokalne kino, albo mały teatr. Tylko ulice trochę szersze...
Jest tu trochę historycznych miejsc związanych z walką o prawa człowieka i wojną secesyjną, ale niestety nie mam czasu na zwiedzanie w ciągu dnia.
Za to po zmroku straszną pustką wieje: centrum dosłownie wygląda jak wymarte. Gadałem chwilę z barmanem: dwie knajpy, kilka restauracji, dwa lata temu postawili stadion baseball'a, teraz budują jakieś centrum konferencyjno-biznesowe. W sumie niewiele, ale co się dziwić skoro sześć lat temu populacja miasta wynosiła ze 200 tysięcy mieszkańców. A poza tym nastawiali centrów handlowych i restauracji na obrzeżach, więc nikt się po centrum nie włóczy po nocy.
Klimatycznie tak przejść się w nocy po wyludnionym mieście, czując na twarzy podmuchy gorącego wiatru...

I just came back from the Brew Pub established by Montgomery Brewing Co just two blocks away from the hotel. It is a nice little local brewery, where they brew four brands of beer: Old Montgomery Blonde, Goat Hill Pale Ale, Riverboat Red i Wipe Out Stout. I really like the name of the last one: Wipe Out :-))).
The city was established in 1819, and downtown reminds me of some Silesia citys: old brick buildings, usually small (there is just one twenty-floor office building), with a couple of church towers sticking out somewhere, some shutdown stores, with a grafitti on the front of the building that looks like local cinema or a theater. The only difference are wider streets...
There are few historic sites around related to the Civil War and Civil Rights Movement, but I did not have time during the day to visit anything.
However, after dusk the whole downtown looks like a ghost town. It is literaly empty. I talked to a bartender and he told me there is not much around: two bars, few restaurants, two-year old baseball stadium, convention center in-progress. Not much, but it should not be a surprise if the population of the city six years ago was about 200k of habitants. Besides they built some malls and restaurant outside of downtown, so there are not many people walking around at night.
Anyway, it was kind of weird walking through the ghost town at night, with the blow of hot wind in the face...

no cóż, przyznaję się bez bicia, że po prostu nie wziąłem ze sobą aparatu. nie liczyłem na to, że znajdę chwilę, żeby strzelić jakieś fotki.
